Class Notes 10/27

Today in class we went over the homework that was due last class, plus the in class assignment. After that we started our coverage on Chapter 7, which deals with scatter plots.

Class Notes 10/21

Today in class we finished up our notes on Chapter 6 (Z-Scores). We looked at a few examples of how to find z-scores and how to interpret them in terms of percentiles. We then used the rest of class time to work on some problems from the book.

Class Notes 10/19

Today in class we covered more of Chapter 6. We talked more about z-scores. The normal distribution and what z-scores mean to the normal distribution. We also did some calculator work on how to find percentiles using your TI-84.

Along with the class notes, we went over the latest Investigative Task (Auto Safety). This time the students got an example of a possible report and I asked them to grade the example, to see how the grading works.

We also did some in class work at the end of class working again with z-scores.

Today in class we started our coverage of Chapter 6. We learned how to standardize data sets so that we can compare sets of data that may be on different scales.

Class Notes 10/13

Today in class we went over the latest quiz along with going over the dollars for students investigative task.

The class then did some class work on comparing parallel box plots and also some problems for the textbook (Pg. 99 #26-29, 34).

Class Notes 10/6

Today in class we worked on creating box plots on our calculators, the students tried some examples on their own and then worked more on being able to describe the distribution (center, shape, spread, unusual and context).

After that they took their 2nd quiz of the quarter.

Homework due Thursday 10/13: Finish reading Chapter 5 and do problems #5-15 odd, 20 and 22 on page 95-98

Today in class we started studying how to compare distributions that have one quantitative and one categorical variable and the displays that we can use to compare them.

We can use histograms, back to back stem plots and box plots.

We then did an activity to compare sets of dot plots.
