Class Notes 11/30

Today in class we reviewed linear regression after taking more than 10 days off from the topic. We went over the homework that was due today and we also did some in class exercises including an timed Investigative Task.

Homework Due 12/2: Read Chapter 10 pg. 222-236

Class Notes 11/17

Today in class we went over our latest quiz on linear regression and z-scores.

After we went over the quiz the students did an in class activity on linear regression models.

We then started our next unit (Regression Wisdom)

Homework due Monday 11/28: Pg 214-221 #1-15 odd. Look at 17, 21, 31

Class Notes 11/8

Today in class we went over the homework that was due today.

We then spent the rest of class working on a linear regression homework.

There will be a quiz Tuesday 11/15 (a week from today)

Class Notes 11/4

Today in class we continued our notes on linear regression. We learned how to find our best fit model by doing the math out on paper, and we also learned how to find the model by using our calculator. When we are given raw data, the quickest way to find our predictive model (best fit) is to use our calculator. We can plot the points with a scatter plot along with the regression line on our scatter plot.

We also talked about residuals and what it means to have a negative or positive residual. Before we jump into using the linear model we need to check that the residual plot does not have a pattern. If there is a pattern a linear model is not appropriate to use.

We also talked more about r and r^2 (r-squared). Make sure you understand what both of those mean.

Homework due Tuesday 11/8: Pg. 192 #1-13 odd, 21, 27-31 odd, 37, 41.

Class Notes 11/2

Today in class we went over the z-score quiz we took last class. A quick scatter plot activity was done in groups trying to decide direction and strength of scatter plots or two quantitative variables.

We then started our class notes on Chapter 8, Linear Regression.

Homework due 11/4: Pg. 192 #1-13 odd.
